Shenzhen day tour guide
By Guide in Shenzhen · · 8 min read
One district a day. Three routes that hold together, what each one leaves out, and the four choices a guide makes with you on the morning.

The best Shenzhen day tour is one district, not a list. Pick the central day in Futian or the coast day in Nanshan, and keep the other for another trip. Shenzhen is a long city, and a zigzag across it turns the day into a car ride.
Most itineraries online are lists of stops. This one is built the other way round. It sets out three days that hold together, what each one leaves out, and the choices a guide makes with you on the morning.
Why a Shenzhen day tour should stay in one district
The sights are strung along a long strip of city, not gathered around one centre. A list that touches the skyline, the coast and the markets will touch all three from the back seat.
Online plans tend to fall into two shapes. One runs through Futian, from a hilltop park to a skyline deck. Eye Shenzhen's one-day plan follows that shape. The other follows the Nanshan coast, from the bay to Shekou.
Mixing them is where days go wrong. You see the same number of places and spend more of the day moving. There is also a third shape for 2026, the new museums in the east, and none of the one-day plans we read include it.
Choose by what you came for. The skyline, the markets and the story of the city point to Futian. Water, galleries and dinner out point to Nanshan. If you have seen the skyline before, the east is the day left. Those are three different trips. Book one, and leave the other two for later.
- Central day
- Futian, from the hilltop to the skyline deck
- Coast day
- Nanshan, from the old factories to the bay
- New museums day
- Guangming, Longgang and Pingshan
- The rule
- One district a day

The central day in Futian
Start at Lianhuashan Park, and start early. The hilltop gives the best view of the business district, and it is free. Eye Shenzhen notes that early arrivals see locals exercising and flying kites.
A short walk away is the Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning. Its design-led exhibits explain how Shenzhen grew from 1978. For older history, the Shenzhen Museum is in the east wing of the Civic Center.
After lunch, the Ping An Finance Centre. The tower is 599 metres tall and the public deck is on floor 116. If the electronics are the point, finish at Huaqiangbei, which is also in Futian. Our Huaqiangbei electronics market guide covers that stop.
This day leaves out the coast, the old factories and the new museums. That is deliberate.
- Start
- Lianhuashan Park, early
- Then
- Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning
- After lunch
- The Ping An deck on floor 116
- Finish
- Huaqiangbei, if electronics are the point
- Always
- Check each venue's opening times on the day

The coast day in Nanshan
Nanshan is the bay, the old factories and the harbour. Start at OCT-LOFT, a former electronics factory complex that now holds studios, galleries and design shops. Eye Shenzhen suggests the large installations at OCAT and a coffee at Old Heaven Books.
Then Shenzhen Bay Park, along the water. At dusk the towers across the bay are lit. Finish at Shekou, around Sea World and Shekou Old Street, where there are restaurants and bars, and a landlocked cruise ship called the Minghua.
If you are crossing from Hong Kong, the Shenzhen Bay crossing lands you in Nanshan, which makes this the natural day. Our Hong Kong to Shenzhen border crossing guide says which crossing suits where you are going.
This day leaves out the Futian skyline decks and Huaqiangbei.
- Start
- OCT-LOFT, the old factory blocks
- Middle
- Shenzhen Bay Park, along the water
- Finish
- Shekou Old Street and Sea World, for dinner
- From Hong Kong
- The Shenzhen Bay crossing lands in Nanshan
The new museums day in the east
This is the day most plans miss, because the museums are new. The Shenzhen International Museum of Art opened on 30 May 2026 in Guangming. The Shenzhen Natural History Museum opened on 28 July 2026 at Yanzi Lake in Pingshan.
Between them sits Robot Block in Longgang, where robots pour coffee and work the junction outside. Longgang and Pingshan are neighbours, which is what makes the middle of the day work. Our post on the Shenzhen International Museum of Art covers the first stop in full.
It is a longer day in the car, and it leaves out everything central. It also suits people who have already done the skyline.
- Start
- Shenzhen International Museum of Art, Guangming
- Then
- Robot Block, Longgang
- After lunch
- Shenzhen Natural History Museum, Pingshan
- Always
- Check each venue's opening times on the day
What a guide decides with you on the morning
Four choices shape a Shenzhen day more than the list of stops. When it starts. How fast it moves. What you eat. And what changes on the day.
Start early for the markets and late for the skyline at dusk. We pick up from your hotel, the airport or the Hong Kong border crossing. Pace is a choice too. Three places or one are both normal, and so is a whole day inside a single electronics market.
Tell us what you eat before the day, whether that is street food, Cantonese, Sichuan, halal or vegetarian, and the stops are chosen around it. Lunch is booked and ordered, with dietary notes passed on.
Rain, a closed venue or a change of mind rebuilds the route while you are in the car. The same person guides you from pickup to drop-off, with a car and driver, fuel, tolls and parking included. Entry tickets and meals are paid on the day.
- Starts
- Early for markets, late for the skyline
- Pace
- Three places, or one
- Food
- Say it before the day and the stops follow
- Changes
- The route is rebuilt in the car
- Paid on the day
- Entry tickets and meals
Set your phone up before the day
A Shenzhen day runs on a phone. Maps, tickets and lunch all go through it. Foreign cards can be linked to the payment wallets, and you do not need a Chinese bank account, according to the official guidance for overseas visitors.
Do the linking before you arrive, not at a ticket gate.
Booking a private Shenzhen day tour
Tell us the day you are free, where you are staying, and which of the three days you want. The private tour guide in Shenzhen page says what a day with us looks like. When you have the dates, send them to us. If you have two days, we would take two districts on two days, not both on one.
Questions people ask
- How much of Shenzhen can you see in one day?
- One district. A central day in Futian covers four stops, from the hilltop to the skyline deck. Trying to cover the coast as well turns the second half into a car ride.
- Where should I stay in Shenzhen for a first visit?
- Futian and Nanshan are the usual advice for first visits, because the metro is convenient. Pick the district that matches the day you want, so the morning starts where the route does.
- Can I do a Shenzhen day tour from Hong Kong?
- Yes. We pick up from the Hong Kong border crossing. The Shenzhen Bay crossing lands you in Nanshan, so the coast day is the natural fit, and a Futian crossing suits the central day.
- Do I need a guide for a Shenzhen day tour?
- A guide earns their place on lunch, tickets and anything that closes. They also rebuild the route when it rains or a venue is shut. The stops themselves are open to anyone with a phone and a metro app.
- What time should a Shenzhen day tour start?
- It depends on the day. Start early for Lianhuashan Park and the electronics markets, and later for the skyline at dusk. Tell us your flight or check-in time and we plan around it.
- What does a private Shenzhen day tour include?
- A private guide for the whole day, in English and Mandarin, and a car and driver with all fuel, tolls and parking. Entry tickets and meals are paid on the day. Hotel and flights are not included.
